This role fits within NFPA-aligned emergency service principles because the DVM operates under the volunteer fire department’s command, safety, accountability, PPE, communications, and training framework. NFPA 1720 supports the volunteer fire department context; NFPA 1550 / 1500 supports responder health, safety, and occupational safety expectations; and NFPA 1561 supports Incident Command placement and command safety. The DVM’s veterinary license establishes clinical authority, while the fire department’s credentialing process establishes the responder role. FRVN veterinarians should operate under Incident Command, follow department safety rules, and remain within written operational limits unless separately trained, equipped, and authorized by the AHJ.
